Have you ever heard of menstrual cups? Have you ever tried using one?

Menstrual cup is one of the most used menstrual products in United States these days. It is said to be increasingly replacing tampons and sanitary napkins/pads because of several advantages it brings over the latter.

Menstrual cup is the latest advancement in menstrual period protection that is inserted into vagina to collect menstrual fluid instead of just absorbing it like what tampons and pads do. It is a soft and flexible canonical shaped cup that is made of plastic (latex), silicone or thermoplastic elastomer. This is said to be the most economical sanitary product for this is reusable that can last for up to 5 to 10 years. Once full, it can just be removed, emptied, cleaned and reuse again. It is advisable to heat it first on boiling water before using again.

How many women are having menstrual periods everyday and how many sanitary napkins can they use every day? Pads are definitely unrecyclable and not biodegradable; imagine where sanitary napkins go after being used. Thus using menstrual cups is also an eco-friendly act. Menstrual cup is safe to use as it was made of silicone, the same kind that is used in breast implants which has been used for over a decade now.

Menstruation is a major stage in puberty years of a girl, the transformation of a girl into a woman. It is vaginal bleeding that happens monthly in adolescent girls and premenopausal women. It results to physical development like breast formation and pubic hair growth. Menstruation usually starts between ages 8 to 15. Most menstrual cycles are between 28 and 30 days long however some women miss a month or two, this is called irregular menstrual cycles. Some cases of irregular menstrual cycles are dangerous as this may imply complications on the ovaries and uterus. This should never be taken for granted and consultation to your doctor is highly recommended.  Once a girl has started menstruating, she is susceptible of getting pregnant in the event of sexual intercourse.

Before and during periods you may also experience anxiety attacks, headaches and stomach aches usually before menstruation and during the first day of menstruation.  Some tend to feel shaky, nervous about something they do not know and feel irrational fear. This is said to be typical for symptoms to get more intense before and during cycle. Also, this is supposed to be temporary and once hormones are settled back down, these symptoms should be gone. However, when these symptoms still persist after menstruation, it is best to consult to a doctor regarding your condition and take a look for some anxiety treatments available on the Internet.
